Durham’s diverse and vibrant cultural community lacked a unified, strategic plan to ensure equitable support, sustainable growth, and inclusive representation of its creative sector. To address this, the Durham Cultural Roadmap was developed as a five-year cultural plan through a community-wide, equitable engagement process. Beginning in late summer 2023, the initiative engages local artists, creative workers, and community members through interviews, listening sessions, surveys, and workshops to gather insights and priorities. This effort, led by AMS and local creative partners, aimed to elevate local voices, including writers, performers, and artists from diverse backgrounds, to shape a plan that reflects Durham’s unique cultural identity. They called JSR to make a temporary site to compile updates on their progress.
Through thoughtful design, branding integration for many partners, and strategic content planning, JSR Strategies successfully developed the Durham Cultural Roadmap website as a visually engaging and functional hub for updates around the city/county cultural planning. The website provided a strong foundation for future growth, stakeholder engagement, and cultural development initiatives in Durham.
